Professional wrestling commentator and personality, Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) following racist remarks made while calling a match on the promotion's show.
During a match between NWA Champion Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch on the Tuesday, November 19 episode of NWA Powerrr, Cornette made the following remark:
"Trevor Murdoch is mad, bad and dangerous. He's the only man I know that can strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia."
The episode was removed from the promotion's YouTube channel before being re-uploaded with the remark edited out, but you can listen to Cornette's comment below.
A day after the episode was released, NWA posted a statement announcing Cornette's resignation from the promotion.
"As an announcer on the November 19 edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance. To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we've established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward. We sincerely regret our failure in this regard."
Aldis took to Twitter to respond to Cornette's comments telling his followers, "This is no way speaking on behalf of the NWA, I am absolutely just speaking for myself: I thought the comment was in poor taste and unnecessary. I totally understand why it caused many to be upset. It was a lack of judgment or sensitivity. I have worked really hard along with many others on this team to make this brand mean something again, and this is not how I want the NWA to be trending."
NWA Powerrr is a weekly show exclusive to the promotion's streaming channels and is not live. Episodes of the show are taped in bulk weeks prior to its release.
Jim Cornette is no stranger to controversy as he made homophobic comments towards openly gay wrestler Sonny Kiss of All Elite Wrestling.
NWA is preparing for Into the Fire on December 14, the promotion's first pay-per-view since its relaunch.
