WWE Wrestlemania 36 Likely Booked Matches

The INDYPW staff takes an in-depth look at WWE's Wrestlemania 36 matches likely to take place in 2020 and explains the details for why these matches will take place. Here's more.

With Wrestlemania season just around the corner and the Royal Rumble being WWE's next pay per view, based on the recent events we have seen on Raw and Smackdown Live, a few matches look to be planned out at the very moment. Let's take a look at which three matches are likely to be booked for WWE's biggest event of the year.

Roman Reigns versus The Fiend:

Ever since Roman Reigns returned to WWE and stating he was on remission from Leukemia, we have seen him gain some momentum in the right direction. That is, the reaction that WWE has been wanting for him for so long has been happening. Prior to his return Reigns received mixed reactions from the crowd similar to those of John Cena when he was a regular in WWE. While things have faired out well for Reigns, so have they for Bray Wyatt in his new character incarnation, "The Fiend". So much so that the Fiend is the number one merchandise seller in all of WWE, and has been one of if not the highest merchandise seller since the characters debut at Summerslam in Toronto, ON.

What we've seen as of late on Smackdown Live however, is how WWE has been indirectly showing us that the two will wind up facing each other at Wrestlemania 36. WWE's main storylines as of late have involved the Fiend and Roman Reigns, with everything else in between. The key to keep an eye out on is the threading involved in the storylines for each character and the further emphasis on each character which have been the indicators here. Roman Reigns has been involved in a program with Baron Corbin that looks all but likely to culminate at the Royal Rumble, while just last night on Smackdown Live, we saw that The Fiend is scheduled to face Daniel Bryan next month.

Perhaps looking at the bigger picture as to why it's very likely the two will face off at Wrestlemania, is that the characters have been kept far away from each other throughout the months. If you couple that with each of their programs having the most exposure on Smackdown Live, you have a formula for a big program between the two. Look for this program to evolve leading to Wrestlemania and possibly after their match with an involvement of new and/or familiar faces to pair up with each character. We at INDYPW suspect that with The Fiend being as hot of a commodity as he is right now, that the build to Roman Reigns' positive reactions, will probably breakdown once the fans figure out what direction WWE is headed towards after the Royal Rumble.

Becky Lynch Versus Shayna Baszler:

You would think that Ronda Rousey would be the likely opponent here for Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania due to the already built in story that stemmed from the pin that went wrong at last years event. While there still is some time that this could happen come Royal Rumble time, all roads seem to lead to Baszler versus Becky Lynch instead. Here's why:

Ever since achieving the pinnacle of her career and beating one of the most popular figures in all of sports and entertainment in Ronda Rousey, it's safe to say that Becky Lynch has been one of the most built characters and protected characters in WWE. So has Shayna Baszler, however. Baszler has had the NXT Womens title for a combined 549 days, beating everyone in her path of destruction. Shayna, like Asuka, has been built more than enough to easily be a contender for Wrestlemania and it looks to be exactly where she's headed next.

We saw some foreshadowing of this leading to Survivor Series this year, mainly when the two had a face off during a promo meant for Becky Lynch which saw Baszler interrupt. We would then see Bayley tap out to Baszler at this years Survivor Series making her the victor of the triple threat match between herself, Bayley and Becky Lynch. While Lynch did not win the match, she seemed to have gotten some payback on Baszler, but was that it after that? Just a beating after the match without Baszler getting even with Becky?

Shayna Baszler recently suffered a loss to Rhea Ripley on the December 18th edition of NXT, losing the title to the new prodigy of the NXT women's division. We at INDYPW expect to look for Baszler to possibly get her rematch with Ripley prior to making her surprise appearance at the women's Royal Rumble match and winning the match that will continue their rivalry all the way through Wrestlemania which will see Baszler come out the victor. Of course, if Ronda Rousey decides to return to WWE, then all bets here are off and we'd expect for the storyline between Rousey and Lynch to continue with perhaps a twist involving Baszler.

Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez or Tyson Fury:

We know that Wrestlemania equals paydays, and as we all know, paydays are Brock Lesnar's calling. Lesnar, who is one WWE's highest earners will easily be booked for a match at Mania for the WWE World title. The caveat here, is, who will it be against though? We've seen Cain versus Brock already at WWE Crown Jewel where we saw Velasquez suffer a loss to the champ in a quick shoot like MMA bout, however, it doesn't seem like their story is over yet. We know that Velasquez was scheduled for knee surgery shortly after the match and we know that the story between the two go back to UFC 121 when Velasquez defeated Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight title. It's likely the two have a rubber match to put an end to their rivalry once and for all with Velasquez going over with rumors swirling that Lesnar may be ending his WWE career in 2020.

Tyson Fury is headed on a collision path with Deontay Wilder on February 22nd, 2020. A super fight which will see it's sequel that originally ended up in a draw the first time the two heavyweights battled it out. A win for Fury would mean Wilders first career lost which would give Fury all the momentum and hype for a match against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania. With WWE historically looking for celebrity presence on the big show and a with a potential Fury win, a match like this between Fury and Lesnar could be a draw to the casual fan looking for a reason to watch or go to Wrestlemania 36.
